Biography
British import Chelsea Leyland has made a name for herself not only in the New York fashion and nightlife communities, but internationally as well. Her skill, creativity and exceptional taste in music quickly gained the attention of fashion and lifestyle brands, establishing her reputation as a DJ. With an exquisite ear and expertise in 50′s, 60′s, 80′s, rock reggae, hip hop, electro dance and pop she seamlessly blends these periods with each other, injecting highlights of Indie, Reggae, Funk, Brit Pop, Punk and Metal.
Chelsea has provided music for some of the greatest fashion/art events and corporate clients worldwide, including Valentino, Chanel, Missoni, Burberry, Fendi, Prabal Gurung, Vogue, Teen Vogue, Interview Magazine, The Last Magazine, Steve Madden, Nine West, Damien Hirst, Ben Watts, Vito Schnabel, The Guggenheim, BBC America, AOL, and Ebay. Chelsea has opened for Duran Duran, Band of Horses, Diplo and Santigold as well as curated music for fashion shows such as Naeem Khan. Leyland appeared in a MTV documentary on female DJ’s and most recently in a 2Pac documentary on Chanel Fuse.
In 2012 Chelsea was chosen by Cole Haan to take over from Theophilus London as the face of their advertising campaign which featured the brands new shoe, ‘The Chelsea Pump’. This was Leyland’s second commercial after appearing in a campaign for Unilever’s Dove.
One of Chelsea’s aspirations came to fruition in 2012 when she began interviewing celebrities and personalities like James Van der Beek, Christina Ricci and Lykke Li for NYLON TV.
Chelsea’s success has led to global recognition, often appearing in party pages and fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vogue (US, Italian, French), The Wall Street Journal, Seventeen, Teen Vogue, The New York Times, Purple, Nylon New York Magazine and Interview. Adding to her roster, Leyland also writes for various outlets such as Vogue, Bullett Magazine and Style.com on everything from fashion, art and of course music.
